This past week has gone quickly and felt like a month, however much sense that makes. I have been constantly busy since last Sunday. I have been going to a church that takes about an hour to get there and isn’t usually over til around 3:00PM and then people hang out until after dinner time, so it’s usually pretty late getting back home.
Monday I went to Onnuri Church to see the pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle speak. It was pretty interesting, but I didn’t do much other than review a little bit for my Korean exam and International Business exam after that. Tuesday morning I took my International Business exam which wasn’t too difficult. Wednesday I took the first part of my Korean exam and the second part on Thursday. I got a 75% overall on the Korean exam. I still don’t know about my other grades.
After the exam some friends and I headed
to Olympic stadium to watch a baseball game; click here for a gallery! Hyundai Unicorns vs. Doosan Bears. That was quite an experience. It was the total Koreanization of the great American sport. It was great to see how it’s been made their own. There’s even cheerleaders! The Doosan bears massacred the Unicorns (which is a really weird name, by the way).
We headed to an area near the stadium afterwards and then to Gangnam to waste some more time and hang out.
Friday I did a whole lot of nothing. Went to Korean class, relaxed in my room and watched Blood Diamond. I had plans on Saturday to go hiking on Dobongsan, which is part of the Bukhusan National Park in Seoul. We left the dorm around 10 and got there about 90
minutes later. It was such an intense hike. It was more mountain climbing than a hike. It was great to be so tired afterwards; I slept so well. Sunday I did the church thing and then went to eat dwedgi-kalbi (pork rib meat) at this really good place. It was probably the best I have had since I’ve been here.
I’m now preparing to leave on Tuesday (tomorrow) for Jeju island with a bunch of friends. It’s so cheap to travel there, and I can only hope that it’s just as affordable to explore. I’ll be gone until late Saturday, so I’ll have a ton of pictures to post, I’m sure.
