Some seriously exciting news comes today from a set of researchers who studied thousands of skulls and found that all humans originated from a single area in Africa; Sub-saharan Africa, that is. This helps to back up claims that most human diversity originally came out of Africa before and during the many stages of migration out across the world.
Manica and colleagues wrote in the journal Nature that variations in skull size and shape decreased the further a skull was away from Africa, just like variations in DNA.
That’s pretty weird to think about, especially how most people think of Africa as a pretty homogeneous population of people. There was actually a DECREASE in diversity the farther the skull was found from Africa.
